Hockey Editorial Review
**** "Rival Darling," the first installment in "The Darling Devils" series, has garnered a positive reception from readers, highlighting its charm as a lighthearted young adult romance. With a strong emphasis on the popular fake-dating trope, the story revolves around the blossoming relationship between Reed and Violet, which is both entertaining and endearing. Readers appreciate the well-crafted chemistry between the main characters, noting their contrasting personalities create delightful tension and banter throughout the narrative. While some reviewers point out the predictability of the plot and a few clichéd moments, they still find the story to be engaging and filled with relatable humor. The minor conflicts and obstacles, including a third-act breakup that leads to a heartwarming grand gesture, have added depth to the romance, although some readers express a slight disdain for such devices. The book successfully resonates with various audiences, including younger readers who find it relatable and enjoyable. Notably, even those who typically shy away from high school romantic narratives were able to connect with the characters and absorb the wholesome spirit of the story. Readers expressed their intent to revisit the book, showcasing its feel-good vibe and engaging storyline. Despite minor drawbacks with character development, particularly concerning side characters like Violet's mom, the writing style and realistic dialogue have been applauded. Overall, "Rival Darling" offers a delightful escape, making it a must-read for fans of sweet, humorous romances set against a backdrop of small-town life and youthful rivalry. **
