Some users have reported issues with tension when sewing fast and frequently, but this can be resolved by resetting the bobbin and thread feed and sewing more slowly on spare fabric until the tension returns to normal. The machine does not come with sewing thread, and customers must purchase it separately. A needle plate cover can be obtained by contacting an authorized Brother dealer, and the machine is compatible with the Brother Universal carrying case 5300. The XM1010 does not work with a walking foot, but it can sew buttons with the use of a darning plate. The maximum thickness that can be sewn is 6mm of fabric, making it suitable for jeans and some upholstery fabrics.
